In the terrific actioner "Macon County Line" (1974), two brothers travel through the South of the '50s. Suspected of murdering the wife of sheriff Max Baer, Jr., the siblings are pursued by the vengeful lawman. "The Ballad of Little Jo" (1993) is the gender-bending, true-life sagebrusher about Josephine Monaghan (Suzy Amis), an outcast from a wealthy Eastern family, who searches for a new life out West. After facing several hardships, she purchases men's clothing and takes residence in a mining town, posing as a man.
