Alec Guinness 5-Film Collection
Format:
In a tour de force performance, Alec Guinness portrays eight members of an aristocratic family, each of whom is knocked off one by one by title-seeking relative Dennis Price. The wickedly funny black comedy "Kind Hearts And Coronets" (1949) also stars Valerie Hobson, Joan Greenwood. Timid bank clerk Guinness hatches a scheme to steal a fortune in bullion, melt the gold down, and disguise it as miniature Eiffel Tower souvenirs in the Oscar-winning Ealing comedy "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1951). With Stanley Holloway, Sid James, and a brief appearance by a young Audrey Hepburn. Guinness returns to play "The Man In The White Suit" (1951), a hapless inventor whose new indestructible, stain-resistant fabric puts him at odds with both clothing industrialists and garment workers' unions. Greenwood, Cecil Parker co-star. And ferry skipper Guinness shuttles between Gibraltar and Algiers--and the wives (Celia Johnson and Yvonne De Carlo, respectively) he keeps in each port--in "The Captain's Paradise" (1953). Five-disc set also includes "The Ladykillers" (1955). 7 1/2 hrs. total. Standard/Widescreen; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
