A shy busboy (Henry Fonda) devotes himself to a disinterested nightclub singer (Lucille Ball) who only dates wealthy men. When Ball is injured by a vicious gangster, she's deserted by all of her so-called friends and finds Fonda is the only person willing to take care of her.
