Writer/director Bill Douglas shared the trials and tribulations of his youth in Scotland in this acclaimed trilogy of semi-autobiographical films. First, "My Childhood" (1972) depicts the brutal hardships faced by 8-year-old Jamie (Stephen Archibald) in an impoverished mining town, forced to stay with his grandmother after his mother is institutionalized.
