Bridge of Spies

In 1957, large-firm litigator James Donovan (Tom Hanks) was tapped to represent Rudolph Abel (Mark Rylance), an unassuming painter arrested as a Soviet spy. Donovan found himself wrestling with his ethics and obligations concerning the feds' expectations of a competent-at-best defense, and their subsequent demand that he handle Abel's prisoner swap with downed U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell) in 1962.
