The modern-day Cinderella tale "First Love" (1939) finds orphan Deanna Durbin leaving boarding school, moving in with wealthy but nasty relatives, and receiving her first screen kiss (from a debuting Robert Stack); Deanna "Can't Help Singing" (1944) as an 1840s senator's daughter who heads west to be with beau David Bruce; after witnessing a murder from a train, Deanna teams with mystery writer Bruce to find the culprit in "Lady on a Train" (1945); and the song-filled romantic comedy "Something in the Wind" (1947) joins singing disc jockey Durbin and millionaire's grandson John Dall in a case of mistaken identity.
