The ground-breaking dance composition Tragedie by Olivier Dubois caused a sensation at the official Avignon Festival in 2012. In the work, Dubois submits the nude bodies of eighteen dancers to the implacable repetition of a mechanism that slowly gnaws away at their docility, pushing them toward an explosive liberation. Powerful and gut-wrenching, Tragedie pulls the audience headlong into a collective catharsis. An exemplary film by Tommy Pascal was created from performances at Le Centquatre in February 2013, and is presented here on DVD from Harmonia Mundi. The choreography is set to an original score by composer Francois Caffeine.
