This story is based on the true life events of Germany's war hero, Father Rupert Mayer. Father Rupert Mayer served in both wars and was awarded the iron cross medal. During his time on the eastern front he lost his leg in the war. Father Mayer spent many years during the second war preaching sermons against the powers to be (Nazi rule). He lands in prison not once but twice where he suffered under the Nazi regime. He ends up in Sachsenhausen concentration camp as a result of his relentless courageous exertion for human rights. He is finally rescued by the Americans and taken back to his home town Munich by an army officer (Damian Chapa).
