Ab heute heisst du Sara (From today, your name is Sara) is a play by Volker Ludwig and Detlef Michel based on an autobiographical story by Inge Deutschkron entitled Ich trug den gelben Stern (I was wearing the yellow star). It recounts the author's childhood memories of being ostracized as a Jew in Berlin during wartime. It describes the fears that haunted the persecuted and traces the fate of many individuals who came to the aid of Inge and her mother. Since it's premiere in 1989, the play has been performed in over 42 theaters across Germany and has been seen by over 120,000 people. It has already sold out at 350 performances at the Grips Theater and continues to be a staple of the company's repertory.
