A con artist (Vera Zorina) was making out just fine posing as a countess, until she fell in love with her latest mark (Richard Greene), and wound up giving the boot to her two criminal cohorts (Erich von Stroheim, Peter Lorre). Her ex-partners didn't take the rejection lightly, though, and they connive to undo her newfound happiness through blackmail.
