How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966)

From high atop Mt. Crumpet, the nasty Grinch hatches a scheme to take away Christmas from the good folk in Whoville, but he soon gets a dose of the holiday spirit himself. Boris Karloff narrates and supplies the Grinch's voice in Chuck Jones' beloved animated adaptation of the Dr. Seuss tale. Songs include "Welcome Christmas," "Trim Up the Tree," and "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" (sung by Thurl Ravenscroft). 26 min. C

Horton Hears A Who! (1970)

Knowing that "a person's a person, no matter how small," Dr. Seuss' ever-faithful elephant Horton bravely protects the too-small-to-be-seen residents of Whoville who inhabit a small dust speck that one day floats by. Carefully placing the speck on a clover and carrying it around wrapped in his trunk, Horton must try to convince the other jungle creatures--particularly nasty Jane Kangaroo--that the Whos even exist at all. Director Chuck Jones’ animated special features the voices of Hans Conried, June Foray, The Mellomen, Jones. 26 min. C

The Cat In The Hat And Friends

Dr. Seuss' beloved children's book comes to (animated) life in "The Cat in the Hat" (1971), as the mischievous feline visits Dick and Sally one rainy day and turns their home topsy-turvy with his antics. Allan Sherman supplies the voice of the Cat. Also, take a fun-filled journey through space and around the world as you travel along "The Hoober-Bloob Highway" (1975), and a little girl whose noggin sprouts a flower learns that being different is okay in "Daisy-Head Mayzie" (1995). 85 min. total. C

The Lorax (1972)

The need to conserve and protect nature is the theme behind this animated tale, based on the classic Dr. Seuss story. Join the wizened forest creature the Lorax as he tries in vain to warn the greedy industrialist Once-ler of the dangers of destroying the beloved Truffula trees that he’s been cutting down to make "Thneed...a fine thing that all people need." Eddie Albert narrates, with voices by Bob Holt, Athena Lorde, Harlen Carraher, Thurl Ravenscroft. 25 min. C
