Glenn Close is a temperamental opera diva set to star in a globally broadcast production of Wagner's "Tannhäuser." She begins a love affair with the opera's Hungarian conductor, but he's got other problems to worry about: union woes, management squabbles, and protesters picketing the theater. Niels Arestrup co-stars in this engaging backstage comedy/drama by István Szabó ("Mephisto"); soprano Kiri Te Kanawa supplies Close's singing voice. 118 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital Surround stereo.
