Rapiña (1975)
A lifetime's poverty and struggle had finally worn on mountain-village woodcutter Porfirio (Ignacio López Tarso), and he saw an out after witnessing a plane crash. Heading to the site and plundering what valuables he could carry from the dead passengers, he reluctantly enlisted friend Evodio (Germán Robles) for a return trip--but violence and vengeance was destined to follow. Carlos Enrique Taboada's compelling tale of greed co-stars Norma Lazareno, Rosenda Monteros. 114 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. C/Rtg: NR
Darker Than Night (1975)
After Ofelia (Claudia Islas) inherited the foreboding old mansion of her eccentric aunt, she had her three besties (Helena Rojo, Susana Dosamantes, Lucia Mendez) move in to help with upkeep. The old lady's will, however, had the proviso that her beloved black cat Beker be cared for...and when the women fail at that, the tia's furious ghost starts extracting horrific penalties. Carlos Enrique Taboada's gothic frightener co-stars Alicia Palacios, Pedro Armendáriz, Jr.. 96 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. C/Rtg: NR
Poison For The Fairies (1986)
Lonely at her new school, well-off 10-year-old Flavia (Elsa Maria Gutierrez) found a friend in isolated classmate Veronica (Ana Patricia Rojo). The relationship takes dark turns, though, when Veronica seeks to convince her susceptible pal that she's actually a witch trapped in a child's body--and starts on a twisting path of exploitation and emotional blackmail. Carlos Enrique Taboada's atmospheric, Ariel-winning opus co-stars Leonor Llausás, Carmen Stein. 90 min. In Spanish with English subtitles. C/Rtg: NR
