"Lord of the Flies" meets Asian action cinema in director Kinji Fukasaku's violent and controversial thriller. In a strife-torn future Japan, 42 ninth-grade students are abducted by the government and taken to a remote island. There, under the new "Battle Royale" law, the teens are fitted with explosive collars, armed, and forced to fight each other to the death, with the last one alive allowed to return home.
