Frank Whaley wrote, directed and stars in this bleak character study, based on the play by Jonathan Marc Sherman. Jimmy O'Brien (Whaley) is an aspiring stand-up comic whose life is a devastating series of disappointments. Holding down a dead-end job while caring for his wheelchair-bound grandmother, Jimmy's marriage to his high school sweetheart (Carla Gugino) begins to disintegrate. And although his comedy routine rarely produces laughs, it soon becomes his only source of solace. Ethan Hawke, Lynn Cohen also star. 93 min.
