American Splendor (2003)
"From off the streets of Cleveland" comes the acclaimed filming of Ohio file clerk/jazz buff/crank Harvey Pekar's comic book chronicle of the commonplace travails of his daily life. Paul Giamatti plays Pekar, who brings his workaday world to graphic life with help from artist pal Robert Crumb (James Urbaniak), becomes a cult celebrity with appearances on "Late Night with David Letterman," and finds an equally eccentric soulmate in Delaware comics store worker Joyce Brabner (Hope Davis). The real-life Pekar serves as narrator and comments on the hilariously gritty goings-on. 101 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; audio commentary; DVD-ROM content; theatrical trailers; featurette.
