Hopalong Cassidy, Vol. 2
First, in "Pirates On Horseback" (1941), a gambling tycoon attempts to defraud a cowpoke causing Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd), Lucky and California to come to his defense. Russell Hayden and Andy Clyde co-star. A teacher who protests the building of a saloon near her schoolhouse is kidnapped and Hoppy must ride to the rescue, in "Borrowed Trouble" (1948). With Clyde, Helen Chapman. Next, an archeological dig uncovers a fortune in gold at a Native American burial site, but some rannies plan to make off with the treasure by staging raids while dressed in Indian garb, in "Dangerous Venture" (1947). With Clyde, Rand Brooks. A friend of Cassidy's is murdered and replaced by a substitute so the bad guys can claim a ranch and its water rights, in "False Colors" (1943). Robert Mitchum co-stars. Finally, "The Devil's Playground" (1946) is a canyon that's said to be haunted, but when they're called in to investigate a bank robbery and attempted murder, Cassidy and his compadres will show the bad guys they don't stand a ghost of a chance. 5 1/4 hrs. total.
