Acclaimed Russian director Aleksandr Sokurov's ("Russian Ark") drama set at the end of World War II (the third chapter of his tetralogy, following "Moloch" and "Taurus") depicts the negotiations between Gen. Douglas MacArthur (Robert Dawson) and Emperor Hirohito (Issei Ogata). The opposing warriors form a unique bond as the American soldier offers the Japanese monarch a face-saving way to surrender.
