Former Civil War compatriots Devil Anse Hatfield (Kevin Costner) and Randall McCoy (Bill Paxton) return to their respective homes in West Virginia and Kentucky where they soon find themselves embroiled in a bitter and bloody family feud. Forces rally behind each man, nearly escalating hostilities into an all-out war between the states.
