Idiosyncratic German filmmaker Werner Herzog trains his camera on former U.S. Navy pilot Dieter Dengler, whose childhood in Germany during World War II left him with a fear of starvation and a burning desire to fly. Coming to America and joining the military, Dengler was shot down over Laos in 1965 and spent time in a POW camp before escaping. His stirring stories of survival are recounted in the locations where they occurred in this fascinating documentary. 74 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; biography.
