The Saltmen Of Tibet (1997)
A unique look at a vanishing way of life, German filmmaker Ulrike Koch's documentary follows four nomads as they set out on a 90-day yak caravan odyssey to the dried salt lakes of Northern Tibet. The annual journey across the foothills of the Himalayas will, they hope, provide them with needed salt to trade for grain, and over the decades has acquired an elaborate series of rituals that accompany the preparations. 110 min. Soundtrack: Tibetan; Subtitles: English; documentary; biographies; theatrical trailers. In Tibetan with English subtitles.
