First, "The Pit and the Pendulum" (1961) is a loose adaptation of the Edgar Allan Poe story that follows a young man as he searches for the truth about his sister's death. His investigation leads him into a medieval torture chamber and the schemes of his demented brother-in-law. Vincent Price, Barbara Steele, John Kerr star; directed by Roger Corman. Next, in "Tales of Terror" (1962), Corman brings to life three more Poe tales: "Morella," "The Black Cat," and "The Case of M. Valdemar." Stars Price, Peter Lorre, Basil Rathbone. Then, in "The Raven" (1963), a magician who has been transformed into the titular bird turns to a former sorcerer for help. Corman's liberty-taking version of the classic Poe tale stars Price, Lorre, Boris Karloff, and a young Jack Nicholson. 4 hrs. total. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
