Based on the Lion Feuchtwanger novel "Jud Suss" (and not to be confused with the 1940 Nazi propaganda film of that name), this British historical drama stars Conrad Veidt as an 18th-century Jewish banker who curries favor with the corrupt Duke of Wuttermberg in order to help his people. Rising to a key position in the Duke's court, Veidt loses sight of his ethics and faith, until tragedy reawakens his soul. With Frank Vosper, Benita Hume, Cedric Hardwicke. AKA: "Jew Suss." 108 min.
