Rio Conchos (1964)/Take A Hard Ride (1975)
A drunken ex-Confederate major (Richard Boone), a U.S. Army captain (Stuart Whitman) and sergeant (Jim Brown, in his film debut), and a Mexican bandit (Anthony Franciosa) make an unlikely team as they try to stop the major's former commanding officer (Edmond O'Brien) from supplying renegade Apaches with rifles in an effort to reignite the Civil War, in "Rio Conchos." And, "Take a Hard Ride" is an unusual "blaxploitation western" starring Brown as a grizzled cowboy on a dangerous trek to deliver a large sum of money to his boss's widow in Mexico. Joined by a gambler (Fred Williamson) and a mysterious martial arts master (Jim Kelly), Brown comes up against a ruthless bounty hunter (Lee Van Cleef) and a disreputable sheriff (Barry Sullivan).With Dana Andrews, Catherine Spaak. 3 1/2 hrs. total.
