"They Drive By Night" (1940) is a gritty and compelling road drama starring George Raft and Humphrey Bogart as truck-driving brothers who take on corrupt businessmen when they try to set up their own company. Ann Sheridan, Ida Lupino, co-star; Raoul Walsh directs. Next, a court-martialed U.S. Army officer (Bogart) takes passage on a ship bound for Japan and learns of a plot to blow up the Panama Canal, in John Huston's WWII espionage thriller "Across The Pacific" (1942). Mary Astor, Sydney Greenstreet co-star. "Action In The North Atlantic" (1943) is a hearty salute to the unsung WWII heroics of the Merchant Marines, as first mate Bogart and captain Raymond Massey dodge U-boats to deliver supplies to Russia. And, a band of Devil's Island escapees joins up with Free French sailors to fight for their occupied homeland, in "Passage To Marseille" (1944). Bogart, Peter Lorre star. 7 hrs. total on four discs.
