Saludos Amigos (1942)/The Three Caballeros

  DVD (1944)
Saludos Amigos (1942)/The Three Caballeros
Made to bolster wartime relations between the U.S. and South America, "Saludos Amigos" is an unusual mix of travelogue and cartoons that follows Walt Disney and his staff on a south-of-the-border tour. Animated sequences that complement their stops feature Goofy as an Argentinean gaucho, Donald Duck fishing at Bolivia's Lake Titicaca and meeting Brazilian parrot Joe Carioca, and a brave little mail plane named Pedro crossing the Andes. And, in "The Three Caballeros," Donald Duck joins Brazilian buddy Jose Carioca and Mexican pal Panchito, in a classic mixture of live-action and animation. Highlight is the pinata sequence, in which Donald takes a magic serape ride through Mexico. 113 min. total. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), Spanish, French; featurette; interview; bonus shorts "Don Donald" (1937), "Contrary Condor" (1944).
