Winner of the 2006 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, this German drama is set in 1984 East Berlin, where a Stasi officer (Ulrich Muhe) bugs the apartment occupied by a notoriously non-subversive playwright (Sebastian Koch) and his actress girlfriend (Martina Gedeck). Intrigued by the couple's lives, Muhe faces an unexpected crisis of conscience when his superior (Thomas Thieme) becomes enamored with Gedeck and orders him to frame Koch, despite the absence of damning evidence of any kind. 138 min.
