Life Begins At Eight-Thirty (1942)
Kathy Thomas (Ida Lupino) is a young handicapped girl whose devotion to her father Madden (Monty Woolley)--a once-famous actor struggling with alcoholism--is met with cruelty. But things begin to look up for both of them as Kathy meets a handsome composer (Cornel Wilde) and Madden lands the lead in a production of "King Lear."
