Atmospheric oater stars Robert Mitchum as an American-born pistolero sent into the States by corrupt Mexican governor Pedro Armendariz to broker a gun deal. Fate finds him losing the rifles and breaking his leg, and he's nursed back to health by the unhappy wife (Julie London) of the local Ranger topkick (Gary Merrill). The gunman soon finds himself stuck between a murder charge north of the border and a venge ful boss below. Jack Oakie, Albert Dekker, and baseball great Satchel Paige co-star. 98 min.
