The Big Red One (The Reconstruction) (Two-Disc Special Edition) (1980)
Format:
Lee Marvin is a grizzled WWII army sergeant leading the men of the First Infantry Division (aka the Big Red One) from one battlefield to the next across Africa and Europe. Robert Carradine, Mark Hamill, Kelly Ward, and Bobby Di Cicco are among the young recruits in his charge. Writer/director Samuel Fuller's gritty, autobiographical military saga was originally slated to be made in the '50s with John Wayne. Film critic Richard Schickel used Fuller's shooting script and thousands of feet of unused footage to put together this special extended version. 162 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, Spanish, French; audio commentary; documentaries; photo gallery; alternate scenes; TV spot. Two-disc set.
