In 1955, Orson Welles began work on a never-completed dream project, an adaptation of Cervantes' classic tale of the addle-pated would-be knight. Nearly four decades later, Spanish filmmaker Jess Franco, who worked with Welles as an assistant director, cobbled surviving footage with new soundtracks to create this tribute to Welles' vision, which finds Don Quixote (Francisco Reiguera) and sidekick Sancho Panza (Akim Tamiroff) battling foes both real and imagined in 1600s and, later, 20th-century Spain. 115 min.
