Golub/Spero (2005)

Format:  Golub/Spero DVD

Often creating monumental canvases of nightmarish power designed to question governmental authority or policies, controversial and unorthodox artist Leon Golub is profiled in the compelling documentary "Golub: Late Works Are the Catastrophes." Blending archival footage with insightful interviews of museum-goers, the film originally released in 1988 has been updated following Golub's passing in 2004. Also included, "Woman as Protagonist: The Art of Nancy Spero" (1993) and "Nancy Spero In The NYC Subway," two shorts profiling Golub's fellow antiwar artist (and wife) Nancy Spero. 138 min. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English stereo; photo gallery; outtakes.
