Jet Li stars as a general of the Taiping Rebellion in 1860s China who barely survives a harrowing battle. He's taken in by a pair of bandits, and after aiding the men against an attack, he takes a blood oath with them. They eventually become powerful warlords, but political deceit and a love triangle threaten to destroy their bond in this sprawling epic that's a loose remake of the Shaw Brothers' "Blood Brothers." Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro co-star. 113 min.
