Spencer Tracy plays an iron-willed cattle baron in this first-rate 1954 western, a variation on King Lear in which sons Robert Wagner and Richard Widmark battle for control of the family. The score by Leigh Harline (who wrote When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio) features a heraldic main theme and rich, thoughtful Americana, with stirring chase and action cues.
