2014 restored version. In a complete change of performance style, Mickey Rooney turns to crime in the dramatic film noir movie Quicksand. As an auto mechanic, Dan (Rooney) borrows $20 from his employer's cash register to go on a date, and as a result, is confronted by a series of disastrous circumstances and mistakes which pushes him deeper into debt and crime, and spirals his life out of control. This is an unusual film noir because it stars an actor that you wouldn't think would be in a crime film. But seeing Mickey Rooney cast in such a role, and doing it especially well, is one of the best features of the film.
