Composed as a tribute to the 1825 coronation of Charles X of France, this opera by Rossini follows a gathering of characters eager to greet the new monarch at his crowning. Though they don't reach the actual ceremony, they retain their enthusiasm by making another set of elaborate plans to greet the king. This inventive adaptation by the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Mariinsky Theatre stars a stellar ensemble including Irma Gigolashvili, Anna Kiknadze, and Larissa Youdina. 135 min.
