Verdi's attempt to immortalize composer Gioacchino Rossini after his passing in 1868 by arranging a mass composed by a community of his peers was abandoned before it could be played publicly for the first time, remaining unheard until this 1988 performance. Rediscovered two years earlier, the work composed by Verdi, Buzzolla, Gaspari, Nini, Ricci, and others is performed by the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Prague Philharmonia Choir under the musical direction of Helmuth Rilling. 152 min.
