While on holiday in Venice with her teacher/lover, stalled opera singer Nella Vago (Gloria Swanson) became intrigued with handsome stranger Jim Fletcher (Melvyn Douglas). Though she believes him a gigolo, she falls for him after sharing an evening--and begins to sing with the passion she lacked before.
