A recently divorced woman (Michael Learned), trying to make a new life for herself and her son in a small town, finds some comfort when she joins a local church choir. That new sense of belonging is threatened, however, when she begins to have conflicts with the demanding and curmudgeonly choirmaster (John Houseman).
