Director David Lean's final film was this visually stunning examination of prejudice in British-ruled India of the 1920s. Judy Davis stars as an upper-class English woman who travels to the Indian city of Chandrapore where she befriends young local physician Victor Banerjee. But their friendship is shattered when Davis accuses the doctor of raping her during a trip to the Marabar caves. With Peggy Ashcroft (who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar), James Fox, and Alec Guinness. 164 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; audio commentary; featurettes. Two-disc set.
