In this 1965-66 series originally aired on public television, renowned American composer Aaron Copland offers an extensive and insightful discourse on some of the most important music composed in the 20th century. While Copland himself provides demonstrations on the piano, he is joined by such celebrated guests as the Julliard String Quartet, Beverly Sills, Lotte Lenya, conductor Igor Stravinsky, and others. All 12 episodes of the series─including "Background: 1910-1919," "Jazz and Jazz Influence," "New Movements in Opera," "Nationalism: European Style," and "American Music in the '20s"─are presented in a three-disc set. 5 3/4 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English. 12 episodes on 3 discs. 5 3/4 hrs.
