A geneticist (Paul Wegener) opted to artificially inseminate a prostitute with a donation from a hanged murderer, and raise the progeny as his own. As the child (Brigitte Helm) grew to womanhood, her wiles and promiscuity caused the downfall of many men...including her adoptive father. "Alraune" (1928), Henrik Galeen's take on the H.H. Ewers novel, co-stars Iván Petrovich, John Loder. Then, in Galeen's "The Student of Prague" (1926), Conrad Veidt plays the title role of the collegiate smitten with a countess (Ágnes Esterházy), who strikes a fantastic and unholy bargain with a mysterious stranger (Werner Krauss) for the money to woo her. 191 min. total. Soundtrack: music score; ausio commentary; featurette; excerpt from "Dangerous Paths" (1924). Silent with music score.
