Burt Lancaster received a most appropriate late-career vehicle as legendary promoter Phineas Taylor Barnum in this made-for-TV biopic. Upon the merger of his circus with James Bailey’s, the master showman reflected upon the many coups of his diverse career, from the founding of his New York museum and discovery of Tom Thumb (Sandor Raski) to his celebrated tour with Jenny Lind (Hanna Schygulla).
