Before Hollywood There Was Fort Lee, N.J.: Early Moviemakini in New Jersey
(1964)
Hooray for Fort Lee!?! Long before its notoriety for certain traffic problems, the New Jersey town was a hub for American film production when the industry was in its infancy and Hollywood was a lot of orange groves. This superb documentary that examines how early cinematic works were created there is accompanied by three noted examples--D.W. Griffith’s "The New York Hat" (1912) and Maurice Tourneur’s "The Wishing Ring" (1914) and "A Girl’s Folly" (1917). 146 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital stereo.
