Margaret Keane (Amy Adams), a mother and painter, developed a unique gift in the 1950s for creating mesmerizing portraits noted for their subjects' compellingly oversized eyes. It was her new husband Walter (Christoph Waltz), however, who became famous for them, after he convinced her that her art would be more marketable as the work of a man.
