Writer/director Bill Douglas shared the trials and tribulations of his youth in Scotland in this acclaimed trilogy of semi-autobiographical films. First, "My Childhood" (1972) depicts the brutal hardships faced by 8-year-old Jamie (Stephen Archibald) in an impoverished mining town, forced to stay with his grandmother after his mother is institutionalized. Hughie Restorick, Karl Fieseler co-star. Next, "My Ain Folk" (1973) follows Jamie (Archibald) to his paternal grandmother's home, then to a foster house. Jean Taylor Smith, Helena Gloag co-star. Finally, "My Way Home" (1978) finds the resilient Jamie (Archibald) preparing to enlist in the Royal Air Force. Paul Kermack, Jessie Combe co-star. 165 min. total.
