Melvin Byrd (Soupy Sales, in his first and only starring film role) is a "miniscule molecular particle surveillance monitor," which means he dusts the nuclear missiles that are housed at Cape Kennedy. While trying to keep the warheads clean in the face of enemy agents' attempts to dirty them up, Melvyn is accidentally negatively ionized, endowing him with the ability to fly.
