This made-for-TV drama is a very loose depiction of the 1932 Massie trial in Hawaii. Four native Hawaiian men find the affluent wife of a naval officer beaten and raped in a field. Upon taking her to the hospital, the men are promptly charged with the crime, with the victim supporting the claim for political and racist reasons. One detective (Kris Kristofferson) must then decipher the truth behind the shocking case. Jane Alexander, Sean Young, Madeline Stowe, and Jose Ferrer co-star. 3 1/3 hrs. on two discs.
