When the Nazis came to power in 1933, Jewish Berlin teenager Charlotte Salomon (voiced by Keira Knightley) was an aspiring art student. The remaining decade of her life--as her family repeatedly fled anti-Semitism, and she committed her experiences to "Life? Or Theater?," the proto-graphic novel that surfaced after she met her fate in Auschwitz--is remarkably limned in this animated effort. With the voices of Brenda Blethyn, Jim Broadbent, Sam Claflin and, in her last performance, Helen McCrory. 92 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English; Subtitles: English; featurettes; theatrical trailers.
