Superior drama stars Robert Donat as an idealistic Scottish doctor who takes his first job in a Welsh mining town. After he is unsuccessful at trying to improve conditions there that are making the miners sick, he moves to London and begins treating wealthy hypochondriacs─making him forget about his ideals before a tragedy causes him to rediscover what is really important.
